L'indien Tata achète Jaguar et Land Rover à Ford pour 2,3 milliards de dollars

L'indien Tata Motors a racheté mercredi 26 mars les célèbres marques automobiles britanniques Jaguar et Land Rover au géant américain Ford pour 2,3 milliards de dollars, une acquisition qui le catapulte dans le difficile secteur des voitures de luxe d'où il est absent.

Cette opération spectaculaire, au coeur de l'industrie automobile européenne, a fait l'objet d'un "accord définitif" entre Tata Motors et Ford et "comprend l'acquisition des marques, usines et droits de propriété intellectuels", selon un communiqué du groupe indien.

Le montant payé en liquide par Tata Motors "sera d'environ 2,3 milliards de dollars" et le transfert de propriété devrait être bouclé d'ici à la fin du prochain trimestre, une fois obtenues toutes les autorisations des autorités de la concurrence. Ford contribuera à hauteur de 600 millions de dollars au financement des fonds de retraite de ses ex-filiales anglaises.

Ratan Tata, le président du conglomérat indien, a exprimé son "immense respect pour les deux marques" et promis de "préserver leur héritage, leur compétitivité et maintenir leurs identités intactes".

Le PDG de Ford, Alan Mulally a répondu que "Jaguar et Land Rover étaient des marques fantastiques", que Ford y avait laissé son "empreinte", estimant qu'elles continueront de "prospérer sous la direction de Tata ".

Ford va se concentrer sur sa marque.
